READY TO TEACH
The Ready to Teach
is a PT3 federally
funded grant program. A collaboration of the University of Massachusetts
Lowell (UML) Graduate
School of Education (GSE),
Chelmsford, Lowell, & Methuen school districts, Mass
Networks and
Education Partnership. The goal of Ready to Teach is to reframe,
redesign, and restructure the UML graduate level teacher preparation
program so that new teachers will enter the profession with the knowledge,
experience, skills and flexibility to use technologies to help K-12
students meet state curriculum standards.
In order to transform the Graduate Program
in Teaching into a model of technology integration in teaching
and learning, Ready to Teach proposes five fundamental changes in
the teacher preparation program:
- Model technology integration in preservice teachers undergraduate
and graduate level teacher preparation courses
- Include observation and assistance opportunities for preservice
teachers in technology integrated elementary and secondary school
classrooms
- Provide preservice teachers with the opportunity to participate
in authentic curriculum design experiences, integrating technology
and content
- Assess preservice teachers' technology skill and understanding
in course work and final performance measures according to the ISTE Foundational
Educational Technology Standards
- Collaborate with undergraduate Arts and Sciences faculty to
support technology skill development and integration in courses
related to the Graduate Program in Teaching
Proposed activities focus on staff development for faculty and teaching
and learning goals for future teachers. By the end of the Implementation
period, the revamped Graduate Program in Teaching will graduate new
teachers who will enter the profession ready to teach in the classrooms
of the 21st century.
