Sixty-two percent of Lowell's students receive free or reduced cost lunch. The district is committed to equity and excellence in education for all students. Recognizing that most urban school children do not have computers at home, Lowell emphasizes school-based technology experiences for students and has committed significant resources to providing the hardware and staff that student access to technology requires. The city pursues its goal of widespread technology integration in teaching through professional development of teachers and comprehensive curriculum reviews.
