I. Notes from the Project Coordinator
Welcome to the first installment of the RTT Newsletter! Each month, we will bring you information about the Ready to Teach project, including its goals and purpose, progress notes, and useful websites and resources for anyone interested in integrating technology into teacher education.
We are currently developing technology workshops to be held in the Technology Integration Lab during the summer. The workshop schedule is posted on the website. If the schedule does not suit your needs, please contact John Wren at 978-934-4653 or John_Wren@uml.edu so that we can try to accommodate you.
II. RTT Purposes/Goals
The goal of Ready to Teach is to reframe, redesign, and restructure the UML graduate level teacher preparation program so that new teachers will enter the profession with the knowledge, experience, skills and flexibility to use technologies to help K-12 students meet state curriculum standards.
Long Term Goals:
1. The transformed Graduate School of Education teacher preparation program will be model of technology integration in teaching and learning.
2. Preservice teachers will experience technology-rich learning environments in their graduate courses, in seminars, and in K-12 school placements.
3. Preservice teacher graduates will demonstrate attainment of ISTE Educational Technology Foundations Standards for All Teachers.
III. Project Progress Update
As year one of our three year implementation grant has come to an end, we look back at all we have accomplished in the past year and the many milestones we have reached:
The Technology Integration (TI) Lab on West Campus opened in January 2001, and two Open House events were held for RTT partners and the University community. Four technology workshops have been developed and presented by TI staff throughout the spring - "Intro to Technology", "Intro to Digital Imaging", "Intro to Digital Video", and "WebQuest! Intro to Web Page Design".
The "Resources" area of the RTT Website has been updated. Links are sorted according to grade level (PK-4, 5-8, and 9-12) and subject (Arts, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies).
The Design Teams have been working diligently all year, and site visits have been made to several of the schools. Six Design Teams, three from Lowell and three from Methuen, presented their work for each other at the Design Team Showcase held on June 12, 2001.

Three dimensional art tools, movable graphics, sound effects, and a wide array of stickers and animations are just some of the tools students can experiment with as they explore Kid Pix.
Inspiration
Inspiration helps both students and teachers organize their ideas as they brainstorm, plan, outline, and prewrite. Users can create concept maps, webs, and other graphical organizers to develop ideas and organize thinking. Templates are also provided for use in many content areas, including Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
Kidspiration
Kidspiration is the K-3 version of Inspiration that helps students develop confidence as they learn to organize information, understand concepts and connections, create stories, and express and share their thoughts.
