The UTeach program relies on the expertise of classroom teachers to provide feedback to interns during their course work. Mentor teachers attend training in the UTeach 5E instructional model and how to give formative feedback to the interns who teach in their classrooms. Mentors receive a small stipend each semester for their work with a pair of UTeach interns. We currently have mentor teachers from schools in Lowell, Tewksbury, Billerica, Dracut, Chelmsford, Methuen, Lawrence, and Tyngsborough.

For more information about becoming a mentor teacher, please contact Eliza Bobek at (Elementary School teachers) or Sumudu Lewis at (Middle and High School teachers).

UTeach at UMass Lowell offers paid professional development to teachers who enter our program as Mentor Teachers. Our professional development workshops allow teachers in the Greater Lowell community to share best practices in inquiry based math and science teaching.
Workshops are offered at the start of each Fall and Spring Semester.
